The BCAP Code James

The BCAP Code is the British code of advertising and it is
enforced by the advertising standards authority. Their job is to decide and
evaluate what should be allowed to be advertised on television according to
some very strict guidelines and I will be applying these guidelines to the
advert I am producing. My advert is targeted towards children as it is an
advert for the popular sweet Skittles so I’ve had to stick to the rules
accordingly. The BCAP code states that the rules that must be followed if
directing ads at children or featuring them. Includes rules about unsafe
practices and unfair pressure; pester power and sales promotions for children.
So between me and my group we’ve have treaded very carefully when creating our advert.
The BCAP code has also stated rules about food, since Skittles is considered a
sweet we had to follow the rule according. The code states that rules relating
to health and nutrition claims in foodstuffs; claims for vitamins and minerals;
infant and follow on formula and food and soft drink advertising to children.
Because of this we had to be careful when creating our advert we needed to
ensure that not only that we made the advert convicting and interesting but
that we stuck to this rule accordingly. One other rule I felt was important to
include was the idea of health and weight, Skittles is a sweet and too much of
it could cause young people to become overweight and unhealthily as such I feel
it is a good rule to include. It states that rules for ads for weight control,
slimming foodstuffs and aids, including exercise; diets, clinics and medicines.
As a group I thought we should take this into account when producing are advert
which is why we have made the advert fast paced and hyper active. For more information
